Fisheries Secretary Abhilaksh Likhi called for a unified approach by public and private sectors to bolster climate resilience and enhance traceability and energy transition in port operations. His remarks came during a webinar organized in conjunction with the FAO under the Technical Cooperation Programme agreement.
Likhi stressed that fishing ports serve as strategic gateways to economic prosperity, ecological sustainability, and social inclusion, beyond their role as physical infrastructures. He pointed out the critical need for integrating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and automation to boost efficiency and service delivery.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, the government is setting up three Smart and Integrated Fishing Harbours in Gujarat, Daman & Diu, and Puducherry, with a hefty investment of Rs 369.80 crore. These initiatives were part of discussions aimed at steering ports toward sustainability with stronger stakeholder collaboration.
